Drawn to the heart of textiles by an understanding of the thread’s path through the weave, I’ve been fascinated – from the very first technical decoding – by the graphic representation of woven fabrics, by their graphic power, by the effectiveness of this binary code which, in its complexity, brings together the sensible and the intelligible. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was through the hand that this language opened up to his curiosity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hand, an extremity of sensitive and intelligible expression, sorts out its own impulses, understands its gestures, observes its commands and reads its movements. Hands shake and cogitate. Their reflections are imprinted in the material and become verb through doing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The threads that have found their way into her hands and that she has come to weave as she seeks to string together answers, weave distance and certainly bind meaning, have first allowed her to heal the interstices before allowing her to think about their condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amandine Fabry, born in 1977, is a Belgian textile designer. Her interests and career lie at the heart of the textile material and its challenges. She has been working in the textile sector for over twenty years, in a variety of positions and in a wide range of practices, and through weaving she has brought together her passion for and questions about the very definition and production of a fabric. Passionate about the practice of weaving, she has identified a language to be explored both in the design of woven fabrics and in the graphic strength of their representations. She began her career as a senior designer in the automotive industry, where she carried out research and development for a number of marketed models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2003, when the textile design course was launched at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (ArBA-EsA)<\/a>, she joined the teaching team and, alongside the successive professors, co-constructed the workshop’s teaching project. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the years, her teaching, focus on the practice of weaving, has become an act of transmission and sharing, giving this ancestral practice a contemporary twist and highlighting its rich complexity, between know-how, creativity and cultural heritage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also co-founded the habit-T design studio, a textile design and production workshop aimed at revitalising hand-weaving and exploring new ways of writing textiles. This project has been showcased at numerous exhibitions and contemporary design fairs. In 2007, habit-T was shortlisted for the final jury of the European \u00c9mile Herm\u00e8s prize, and in 2008 it was awarded the prize at the Li\u00e8ge Design Biennial. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amandine Fabry currently divides her time between teaching, the development of her tramesFACTICES<\/strong><\/em><\/a> project and research in the industrial sector, combining transmission, artistic exploration and technical innovation. .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aspir\u00e9e au c\u0153ur de la mati\u00e8re textile par la compr\u00e9hension du chemin du fil dans le tissage, elle est \u2013 d\u00e8s les premiers d\u00e9codages techniques \u2013 fascin\u00e9e par la repr\u00e9sentation graphique des tissus tiss\u00e9s, par leur puissance graphique, par l\u2019efficacit\u00e9 de ce code binaire qui renferme en sa complexit\u00e9 un rapprochement entre sensible et intelligible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

C\u2019est d\u2019abord par la main que ce langage s\u2019est ouvert \u00e0 sa curiosit\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La main, extr\u00e9mit\u00e9 d\u2019expression sensible et intelligible, trie ses propres \u00e9lans, comprend ses gestes, observe ses commandes et lit ses mouvements. Les mains s\u2019agitent, cogitent. Leurs r\u00e9flexions sont imprim\u00e9es dans la mati\u00e8re et deviennent verbe par le faire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les fils qui se sont retrouv\u00e9s dans ses mains et qu\u2019elle est venue \u00e0 tisser en cherchant \u00e0 ficeler des r\u00e9ponses, \u00e0 tramer de la distance et certainement \u00e0 lier du sens lui ont d\u2019abord permis de panser des interstices avant de lui permettre de penser leur condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amandine Fabry, n\u00e9e en 1977, est une designer textile belge. Ses int\u00e9r\u00eats et son parcours se situent au coeur de la mati\u00e8re textile et de ses enjeux. Actrice du secteur textile depuis plus d\u2019une vingtaine d\u2019ann\u00e9es dans des postes divers et des pratiques multiples, elle croise – au travers de la pratique du tissage – son engouement et ses questionnements autour de la d\u00e9finition et de l\u2019\u00e9laboration m\u00eame d\u2019un tissu. Passionn\u00e9e par la pratique du tissage, elle y cerne un langage \u00e0 explorer aussi bien dans la conception des tissus tiss\u00e9s que dans la force graphique de leurs repr\u00e9sentations. Elle a d\u00e9but\u00e9 sa carri\u00e8re en tant que senior designer dans l’industrie automobile, o\u00f9 elle a men\u00e9 des recherches et d\u00e9veloppements pour de nombreux mod\u00e8les commercialis\u00e9s. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

En 2003, lors de l\u2019ouverture du cursus de design textile \u00e0 l\u2019Acad\u00e9mie Royale des Beaux-Arts (ArBA-EsA)<\/a>, elle rejoint l\u2019\u00e9quipe p\u00e9dagogique et co-construit, aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s des titulaires successives, le projet de cet atelier. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Au fil des ann\u00e9es, son enseignement centr\u00e9 sur la pratique du tissage est devenu un acte de transmission et de partage, donnant \u00e0 cette pratique ancestrale un souffle contemporain et mettant en lumi\u00e8re la richesse de sa complexit\u00e9, entre savoir-faire, cr\u00e9ativit\u00e9 et h\u00e9ritage culturel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elle a \u00e9galement cofond\u00e9 le studio de cr\u00e9ation habit-T<\/em>, un atelier de cr\u00e9ation et de production textile visant \u00e0 revaloriser le tissage manuel et \u00e0 explorer de nouvelles \u00e9critures textiles. Ce projet s\u2019est illustr\u00e9 \u00e0 travers de nombreuses expositions et salons de cr\u00e9ations contemporains. Parmi ses distinctions, habit-T<\/em> a \u00e9t\u00e9 s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9 en 2007 pour le jury final du prix europ\u00e9en \u00c9mile Herm\u00e8s et a re\u00e7u, en 2008, le prix de la biennale de design de Li\u00e8ge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Actuellement, Amandine Fabry se d\u00e9ploie entre l\u2019enseignement, le d\u00e9veloppement de son projet tramesFACTICES<\/a><\/em><\/strong> et des recherches dans le secteur industriel, articulant ainsi transmission, exploration artistique et innovation technique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
