As every year, Belgium is Design – an initiative by Flanders DC, Wallonie-Bruxelles Design Mode (WBDM), and MAD Brussels – participates in the international Milan Design Week to promote Belgian design. This year, the focus shifts to a unique and atypical theme. The exhibition highlights Belgian textile design, exploring everything from experimentation and material research to various applications and products development. This year it takes place at @alcova.milano, one of the most widely followed projects during the Fuorisalone.

WOVEN WHISPERS is a nod to Belgium’s rich textile history, bringing together the innovative and refined qualities of textiles while emphasizing the craftsmanship and expertise of the various designers.

With WOVEN WHISPERS, Belgium is Design brings together textile projects that offer warmth, comfort, and a profound sense of connection.

Woven Whispers – Alcova

Belgium is Design will be exhibiting during Milan Design Week in the great hall of the stables (Scuderie) at Alcova – Villa Bagatti Valsecchi, one the most significant examples of 19th-century villa architecture in Lombardy. A notable feature of the villa is its portico, supported by 15th-century columns sourced from Milan’s Lazzaretto (the historic plague hospital) when it was demolished. The villa is surrounded by extensive gardens.

Alcova is a platform for designers and companies investigating the future of living and making founded by Valentina Ciuffi (Studio Vedet) and Joseph Grima (Space Caviar). Now in its seventh edition, Alcova has become one of the most visited design events in the world. In 2024, Alcova activated Villa Borsani and Villa Bagatti Valsecchi in Varedo (near Milan), renewing its commitment to bring historical and significant spaces for the city to life.
